Pay It Forward!

This post is updated regularly, so be sure to stop in again to see how the kindness is spreading!!

Loon Lake's Pay it Forward Project is all about spreading kindness throughout the world.  The choices you make every day can impact someone else, so why not choose to be kind?  We are!
To learn how our Pay it Forward Project works, check out the video above.  To see how our kindness is being paid forward, check out below!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten teachers and students at Loon Lake have adopted a kindness project for the year.  They are collecting items for an organization called Project Night Night that provides homeless children with a special tote bag.  Each tote includes a book, stuffed animal and a blanket.  With the first collection, they have 38 Project Night Night totes.  They also have a huge box of toiletries and another huge box of pajamas, socks undergarments and warm winter things.  The staff at Loon Lake helped out too and between staff and kindergarten students, they raised $212 to help cover the costs of Project Night Night totes and to purchase items needed to make a complete tote.

I wanted to say thank you to staff and a few people I didn't know who stopped by to check on me (or alerting someone that I may need help!)  today after my car spun out and was stuck on Loon Lake Road.  Thank you also to those for checking on me once I was in my room.  I was taking it slow, but must have hit the ice patch just right.  I am doing OK and the car seemed good once it was pulled out mid-morning.  Than you to Chrissy and Anita for rides to and from my car!  Thank you also to Angie for talking me down after and getting my room ready and watching my class!  Thank you Karen for checking on me too!  That was the bonus part to that happening~ being reminded of what a wonderful supportive staff and community we have!

U-17: I love the Kindness project!  What an incredible gift you are giving to your students, the abiliy to think of someone beyond themselves.  This project forced them to think of something that would mean something to another person.  I received my kindness from 2-U-17.  I am the manager for the 9-1-1 center in Scottsdale Arizona.  I have been in law enforcement for 32 years.  My niece sent a thank you card to my local police department- Phoenix Police, for keeping my city safe.  She had to have given consideration to the fact that police are dear to my heart and that this would mean somethng to me.  Her card included a beautiful drawing of two police officers walking a beat in a colorful, vibrant city.  The sun shined brightly (as it always does here).
I'll be following your kindness project and suggesting it to my daughter Emily who will begin her semester of student teaching next month in Tucson, AZ.

Third Grade

H-2: My husband and I are friends of Brandon's family and Brandon was at our home visiting and instead of watching TV or doing his screens, he decided to go outside and help my 77 year old husband blow leaves and help clean up the yard.  It was very cold and windy that day so he was very appreciative.  Living in today's world, it is so refreshing for a child that age to step forward to assist an older person in need without asking for their help!  Walled Lake, MI

S-27:  After the recent heavy snow, I was speaking to my son Adam about me having to go out and use the snow blower to clear the driveway.  After going out to try, I slipped and hurt my back so I came back into the house and mumbled to myself that I would try it again the following day and decided to go upstairs and watch some TV in my room and rest my back.
I came downstairs about an hour later and was very surprised to find that my son, Adam, had gone out to the driveway and cleared all the snow with a shovel.  This was such a kind and thoughtful act on his behalf.  Commerce, MI.

Fourth Grade

Loon Lake 4th Graders and Girl Scouts are participating in a service project called Looms for Love.  Looms for Love donates rubber band bracelets made from the Rainbow Loom to children's hospitals, nursing homes and other places of choice.  The bracelets are given to patients or residents to put a smile on their face and to brighten their day.  This project will continue through May.  If you'd like to help, they need Rubber Silicone Bands, clasps or completed bracelets.  For more information, contact the fourth grade teachers or leave a comment below.

D-14: Just a little note to let you know that Luke did an act of kindness.  We came home from shopping one day and the dog had gotten up on the counter and grabbed a box of nerds.  They were all over the floor.  Luke came in and immediately went to the closet and grabbed the broom and dust pan and cleaned it up before I had a chance to.  It was much appreciated! Wixom, MI.
D-18: I got a yummy cup of coffee from D-18 at Walled Lake Central (MI).
N-28:On November 15th, Cooper helped my wife and I move into our new house.  He spent the entire day moving (light) boxes, unloading the contents into proper rooms, setting pictures against walls in the room they belong and even put together my son's room!  He was the best helper we could have asked for!  West Bloomfield, MI.
Fifth Grade

W-21: The student watched our house, brought in our mail and took care of our dogs while we were on vacations.  Wolverine Lake, MI.

W-24: Mitchell has said thank you consistently for the last couple weeks.  He has even approached me at random times during the day with a list of things I do that he is thankful for.  Today we will take the card outside of our home and pay it forward. Wixom, MI
ST-13: Rhianna held a door open for me while I carried stuff into the house. Commerce, MI.
ST-13: I was bought lunch at Total Sports.  We then went on a trip to Charleston SC and then to Orlando.  Along the way we ran into a couple in need of some help.  We were at McDonalds so we purchased a Mc Cards for them. We wished them well and headed on our way.
We then were in Daytona Beach where we ran into a lady in tears.  The lady and her family were moving and were tired but they were short $8 for a room for the night.  They had their van and trailer loaded up and needed some rest before finishing their journey.  We gave them $10 and wished them well. Unfortunately the pay it forward paper was in the bus.  We will help another person and pass it along.  Thanks for the idea.  WE may have helped them anyway, but this made us think a little harder.

SC-4: My husband, Lt Col. Jeffery Kenney received an act of kindness from Loon Lake Elementary School.  He received several notes and cards written to the Marines in his Batallion who just returned from Afghanistan.  We live in Twentynine Palms, CA.

SC-4: Jacob is a friend of our family and was visiting us last week.  We are getting ready for our annual holiday sale at our home and are very busy setting up 12 vendors for the show.  Without even being asked, Jacob stepped in and started to mark items, move furniture and watned to help organize everything.  Which, I may add, he is an expert!  It is very refreshing to see someone his age not being so engrossed in screens and willing to help out a couple of seniors.  Walled Lake, MI.

SC-16: I received an Act of Kindness.  It was from a lovely 10 year old and it was a gift of a chocolate from from Disney World.
I am at The Villages, FL.  What a wonderful program for the children.  Congratulations on teaching the children such a good thing. God bless you.

T-4: Nico helped me carry stuff out to my car. Hartland, MI.

T-23: I am writing today to provide an update on your kindness Project, which I think is a fantastic idea.  I received the card T-23 one day after my neighbor shoveled my driveway free of snow.  I in-turn shoveled MY neighbors driveway (on the other side of me) the very next day and another person's driveway a few days after that.  Additionally, while driving yesterday I saw someone stuck in the snow in their car.  I pulled over to help them get pushed out (some other people stopped too).  In short, even though I have passed on my one act of kindness, I am continuing to help the class spread kindness throughout the world!  Thank you and God Bless- Loren

Mrs. Ellis' Class

He very carefully arranged all of the blue and gold scouting cut-outs around the centerpieces. Then he went and helped put out the utensils at all the tables with me. Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

When you wash your hands, make sure the water isn’t turned on full blast so that water is splashing all over the sink or floor.  If you make a mess:  water on floor or mirror or soap on floor please wipe it up.  Messy bathrooms are not rooms that people wish to use!

Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

Being respectful in the bathroom means that you also help take care of it.  Making sure to flush the toilet after using it is a common courtesy. If you drop toilet paper, make sure pick it up and dispose of it.  No one likes to use a stall that is a mess. Be respectful of others.

Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

Bathrooms stalls were created for privacy.  Gang bathrooms allow a small group of people to use the toilets at the same time, rather than having people wait.   Respecting others’ privacy means that you go into the bathroom, enter and lock the stall, take care of your own business, exit, wash and dry your hands and leave. Staying in the bathroom and chatting or looking into stalls-through the door or over the wall are not being respectful of other people’s privacy.

Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

The gang bathrooms (bathrooms that have several stalls) are built in such a way that they create echoes. Although it is interesting and fun to hear your voice echo, it interferes with others’ learning. Echoing voices from the bathroom can also be heard in the hallway, and sometimes into classrooms.  Be respectful of others in the school and  remember to use a quiet voice in the bathroom IF you have to talk at all.

Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

Bathrooms are necessities. Everyone uses a bathroom several times a day.  Because bathrooms are shared rooms, it is extremely important to be respectful when taking your turn in any of the Loon Lake bathrooms.

Readiness on the Playground

Being game ready means that rules and teams are chosen before the game begins!  Planning for the game, activity, or use of equipment before getting outside allows you to use the entire recess for fun and games!

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready means lining up outside immediately when signaled, and waiting quietly to be dismissed from the playground. Standing in line without talking, facing forward, listening to and following directions given by the playground supervisors and entering quietly into the building are all traits of being ready on the playground.

Readiness on the Playground

Readiness on the playground insures that each grade level transitions outside smoothly and easily.  Students getting outside quickly eliminate hallway traffic jams as another grade enters the Cafeteria for lunch.  Ready students line up immediately when the whistle signals. This provides a smooth and easy transition back into the school, and reduces the amount of time your teachers wait for you.

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready means others don’t have to wait for you.  Ready people are respectful of other people’s time.  They remember to gather jackets, gloves, hats, boots, and other necessary accessories BEFORE going to lunch!  Friends don’t have to wait to start a game or help find items in Lost and Found when people plan ahead and prepare for recess.

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready for the playground actually begins at home! When thinking about the day ahead, ready people gather information on the day’s weather and plans their clothing accordingly.  Ready people dress warmly during colder weather and cooler when the warm weather arrives.  They also make sure that their choice of shoes are safe for climbing, running, jumping and other outdoor activities.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable students are trustworthy, safe, honest and dependable.  Reliable students follow game rules.  On the soccer field, the kickball diamond or while playing a creative “made up” game, reliable students will play according to the rules decided as a group. Reliable students are fun to have on your team, or even on the opposite team because they will be committed and fair players.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable students are honest. When needed, reliable students will report the facts to help an adult resolve an issue. Reliable students are also honest with their peers, including their friends. Reliable students will let others know that inappropriate behavior is unacceptable. They can be counted on to get adult help when a situation calls for it. Reliable students can be counted on to make the playground a more enjoyable place.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable people can be trusted to use the playground equipment correctly.  The playground supervisors count on reliable students to follow school rules, line up when signaled, use good judgment when making choices, and working with others.  These students earn privileges because they create a reputation as reliable person.  Is reliable part of your reputation?

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable people follow through with commitments.  When reliable students make recess plans, they will follow through with them, even if a better offer arises.  Reliable students are trusted to help adults with important tasks.  Reliable students are also trusted by their peers because over and over again, these students have demonstrated that they CAN be counted on. Being reliable takes hard work and practice. YOU can be reliable!
