Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

The gang bathrooms (bathrooms that have several stalls) are built in such a way that they create echoes. Although it is interesting and fun to hear your voice echo, it interferes with others’ learning. Echoing voices from the bathroom can also be heard in the hallway, and sometimes into classrooms.  Be respectful of others in the school and  remember to use a quiet voice in the bathroom IF you have to talk at all.

Being Respectful in the Bathrooms

Bathrooms are necessities. Everyone uses a bathroom several times a day.  Because bathrooms are shared rooms, it is extremely important to be respectful when taking your turn in any of the Loon Lake bathrooms.

Readiness on the Playground

Being game ready means that rules and teams are chosen before the game begins!  Planning for the game, activity, or use of equipment before getting outside allows you to use the entire recess for fun and games!

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready means lining up outside immediately when signaled, and waiting quietly to be dismissed from the playground. Standing in line without talking, facing forward, listening to and following directions given by the playground supervisors and entering quietly into the building are all traits of being ready on the playground.

Readiness on the Playground

Readiness on the playground insures that each grade level transitions outside smoothly and easily.  Students getting outside quickly eliminate hallway traffic jams as another grade enters the Cafeteria for lunch.  Ready students line up immediately when the whistle signals. This provides a smooth and easy transition back into the school, and reduces the amount of time your teachers wait for you.

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready means others don’t have to wait for you.  Ready people are respectful of other people’s time.  They remember to gather jackets, gloves, hats, boots, and other necessary accessories BEFORE going to lunch!  Friends don’t have to wait to start a game or help find items in Lost and Found when people plan ahead and prepare for recess.

Readiness on the Playground

Being ready for the playground actually begins at home! When thinking about the day ahead, ready people gather information on the day’s weather and plans their clothing accordingly.  Ready people dress warmly during colder weather and cooler when the warm weather arrives.  They also make sure that their choice of shoes are safe for climbing, running, jumping and other outdoor activities.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable students are trustworthy, safe, honest and dependable.  Reliable students follow game rules.  On the soccer field, the kickball diamond or while playing a creative “made up” game, reliable students will play according to the rules decided as a group. Reliable students are fun to have on your team, or even on the opposite team because they will be committed and fair players.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable students are honest. When needed, reliable students will report the facts to help an adult resolve an issue. Reliable students are also honest with their peers, including their friends. Reliable students will let others know that inappropriate behavior is unacceptable. They can be counted on to get adult help when a situation calls for it. Reliable students can be counted on to make the playground a more enjoyable place.

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable people can be trusted to use the playground equipment correctly.  The playground supervisors count on reliable students to follow school rules, line up when signaled, use good judgment when making choices, and working with others.  These students earn privileges because they create a reputation as reliable person.  Is reliable part of your reputation?

Reliability on the Playground

Reliable people follow through with commitments.  When reliable students make recess plans, they will follow through with them, even if a better offer arises.  Reliable students are trusted to help adults with important tasks.  Reliable students are also trusted by their peers because over and over again, these students have demonstrated that they CAN be counted on. Being reliable takes hard work and practice. YOU can be reliable!

Resiliency on the Playground

Being resilient doesn’t mean that it is easy. By keeping a positive attitude, using coping skills, seeking adult help as needed and being persistent, the playground can be a great place for everyone!

Resiliency on the Playground

Resilient people are hopeful that whatever is challenging them will soon become easier or resolved. They persevere and endure through the challenges.  The next time you find yourself being challenged on the playground, try solving the problem. Be persistent and keep working on the problem until you are able to solve it.

Resiliency on the Playground

Being resilient means looking at unfavorable assignments, situations or tasks in a positive way.  Resilient people see difficulties as a challenge and problem solve ways to make things better.  The playground is filled with events, games and situations that can be unfavorable such as not wanting to include others, being left out by a group and not getting to play on the tire swing.  Next time this happens, try to see the positive side of it, or problem solve ways to make it work. Be resilient!

Resiliency on the Playground

Resilient people don’t let mistakes stop them from reaching a goal. Sometimes when playing on a team, people mess up. They miss a catch, score for the opposite team or strike out. When that happens, be resilient by learning from your mistake and try again. All successful athletes learned from their errors before becoming successful.

Resiliency on the Playground

Being resilient means choosing and using a coping skill when things are difficult.  There are many times that students encounter difficulties on the playground.  The next time you disagree with a friend, don’t get picked by the team you want, or find a shortage of swings, take a deep breath, use self- talk or keep it small, and move on. That’s being resilient!
